Summer Cup Goes to Engineers

Engineers Complete League & Cup Double

The Redditch Skittles League held their annual Summer Cup at Redditch Borough which saw Engineers easily add to their league triumph. Six teams of seven players entered the competition. The teams competed against each other aiming to score the most pins over five legs to win the cup.

Alter the first leg, Engineers were four pins ahead of the then second placed team, Lodge Farmers, thanks largely to a stack of 13 pins from Andy Clewlow. And they extended their advantage after the next leg with an important Craig Sears’s stack of 15 in a best team total leg score on the night of 56.  At this stage Nomads had moved into second place but were 16 pins adrift of the leaders.

With Engineers having a poor third leg score, Jumbo Jets Set suddenly found themselves in second place although the gap to the leading score was still 13 pins. And the Jets held onto second spot when leg four was completed but had only reduced the distance to the leaders to 11 pins. 

Any hopes of the chasing teams overtaking the leaders were soon dashed when Engineers made a 55 pin last leg score, with Luke Saunders chipping in with a 12 stack. Nomads’ good last leg saw them pinch second spot, just one pin ahead of third placed Bernie’s Bolts who finished strongly, and two pins ahead of the Jets who had a poor last leg score to drop to fourth.

And despite promising first leg scores, which had seen The Borough and Lodge Farmers well placed, both subsequently found scoring difficult and finished fifth & sixth respectively.
