Nomads Win Again To Go Top

With other teams finding early season scoring difficult, Nomads are taking full advantage. They maintained their 100% winning start with a comfortable win over Lodge Farmers, who fielded a player short, and who have now lost their opening two fixtures.

Lodge Farmers though started brightly and narrowly missed winning the first leg but ultimately lost it by only a single pin. Nomads then took leg two, opening up a nine pin lead, before extending their lead to 13 pins after leg three. Lodge Farmers briefly raised their hopes of a comeback by reducing their deficit to seven pins after leg four. But Nomads were in no mood to be charitable when they registered a 64 pin last leg score leaving Lodge Farmers needing 72 pins for an unlikely win. And so it proved when they could only manage 56 pins.

For Nomads, Geoff Loat scored 41 (incl a 16 stack) which is the leading individual score to date in league. He was well supported by Mac Eaton 37 and Eddie Upright 36. For Lodge Farmers, Alex Lightfoot made 33 and Richard Long, Lynne Long, & debutant Judith Marston 32 each.

It was a low scoring and close see-saw game between Bernie’s Bolts and Engineers with the latter making one of their worst team scores for many seasons and The Bolts were left to rue not taking advantage of Engineers struggles. Engineers were six pins up after leg one but found themselves five adrift after leg two. It was all change again after leg three with Engineers now back in front by five pins before The Bolts won leg four to be only two pins behind. The games best leg score, 67 pins by Engineers, was then decisive leaving The Bolts needing 70 pins to win. That target was rarely threatened as The Bolts made only 58 pins.

Top scorers for Engineers were Craig Ellis & Andy Clewlow with 36 pins each, and Craig Sears & Brandon Kelso with 33 apiece. Best for The Bolts were 33 pins each from Mark West & Lewis McSweeney and 30 each by Craig McSweeney, Mark Andrews & Dan Goodman.

With The Borough unable to field a team, they ceded their game to Jumbo Jet Set who took maximum points.
